The Nine Muses
Erato is the Muse of romantic poems and love
Searching for the light that flows only from above.
Clio is the Muse of history’s heroic acts;
In her hand she holds a book of ancient facts.
Calliope is the Muse of epics and eloquence,
Dreaming of faraway lands and adventures hence.
Euterpe is the Muse of deep, logical thought
Bringing a wick of light to each mind that is taught.
Thalia is the Muse of comedy and likes to laugh,
Though also drawn to architecture and the shepherd’s staff.
Melpomene is the Muse of tragedy, and as such
All will know she understands their sorrows much.
Polymnia is the Muse of the arts of religion;
Stories, poems, and songs of sacred fruition.
Terpsichore is the Muse of dance and education;
Laurel leaves and a harp are her usual depiction.
Ourania is the Muse of astronomical objects afar
And as such she is always pictured as bearing stars.
